Bishop Esterka Legacy
Welcome to the digital home of the late Bishop Esterka, a visionary leader whose life and ministry were a testament to the power of faith, empathy, and bold innovation. Bishop Esterka’s legacy is profoundly marked by his compassionate and pioneering work with Czechoslovakian refugees, individuals who sought refuge from the oppressive shadows of communism and found themselves navigating the complexities of life in a new world, often on the margins of conventional American parish life. His unwavering commitment to these communities exemplified his broader vision of a Church that embraces, understands, and serves all, especially those overlooked or living at the edges of the society.
In a world where the echoes of tradition often overshadow the whispers of progress, Bishop Esterka championed a bold approach to theology and ministry. He advocated for a Church that does not merely open its doors, but one that steps out, reaching into the heart of communities to touch the lives of individuals where they are, understanding their unique needs, and speaking their language. His work with the Czechoslovakian refugees, escaping the clutches of communism, stands as a beacon of this approach, as he tirelessly worked to ensure that their unique needs and challenges were acknowledged, valued, and met with compassion and solidarity.

With a spirit unbound by the confines of convention, Bishop Esterka encouraged questioning, exploration, and a continuous reevaluation of what it means to be a community of faith. He urged us to find the way not only in our understanding of the divine but in our actions and commitments to each other as embodiments of divine love and grace.
In this space, we honor Bishop Esterka’s legacy by continuing his mission: to be generous in our love, unyielding in our pursuit of justice, and unwavering in our commitment to walk alongside those in need. We invite you to explore, engage, and be part of this living legacy. Together we strive to reflect the inclusive, compassionate, and vibrant Church that Bishop Esterka modeled.
Welcome, and let us journey together towards a future where faith is not about conforming to the past, but about transforming the present and future through courage and love that takes risks. Bishop Esterka’s legacy is not just a memory; it’s a call to action—a call to open our hearts and extend our hands, especially to immigrants and those who find themselves on the fringes, seeking refuge, hope, and a place to call home in the face of daunting challenges and uncertainties
What We Do
The Esterka Trust proudly embodies the compassionate spirit of Bishop Esterka, channeling its resources into impactful projects and educational opportunities that resonate with his vision of service and empowerment. With an investment of almost two million dollars, the Trust has successfully initiated and supported critical healthcare projects, ensuring that vulnerable communities in the interior of Haiti have access to essential medical services. Our endeavors include:
1) The establishment of a state-of-the-art surgical unit in a hospital in Haiti, established by the Jeff C Domond Foundation, significantly enhancing the medical care available to the local population.
2) The integration of a dialysis clinic, providing lifesaving treatment and hope to individuals suffering from kidney-related conditions.
3) The ongoing development of a dental office, a commitment to oral health that underscores our holistic approach to healthcare and community well-being.
In the realm of education, the Esterka Trust has invested over half a million dollars in nurturing the potential of youth. We have awarded seven scholarships across various disciplines, including nursing, film, cyber security, sports medicine, computer science and engineering. These scholarships are not just financial aid; they are investments in the future, enabling passionate and deserving students to pursue their dreams and contribute meaningfully to their fields.
Through these substantial projects and scholarships, the Esterka Trust continues to honor the legacy of Bishop Esterka, touching lives, and building a brighter, healthier, and more educated future for communities and individuals alike.
Our Mission
The Esterka Trust is committed to honoring the compassionate vision and enduring values of Bishop Esterka by dedicating its resources to a two-fold purpose:
1. To make a positive difference in the lives of the most vulnerable and
2. To empower the young minds of our future.
Our primary mission is to extend a hand of solidarity to the poorest of the poor, providing relief, hope, and basic necessities for a brighter future. In tandem, we recognize the transformative power of education and are devoted to supporting deserving young individuals who, without financial assistance, face barriers to accessing higher education.
Through this two-pronged endeavor, the Esterka Trust strives to cultivate a legacy of generosity, empowerment, and continuous learning, reflecting Bishop Esterka’s lifelong dedication to service, community, and progress.
